Accomplishments of Bill Dickey

William Malcom Dickey, otherwise known as Bill Dickey, was born on June 6, 1907 and died on November 12, 1993. He was famous for being a catcher for the New York Yankees. The Yankees signed him in 1925, where he played for 3 years in the minor leagues. He then played for the parent club from 1928 to 1943 and was a player-manager in 1946. Dickey competed in 8 World Series, 7 of which his team won. During this time, he played with other unforgettable athletes, of which includes Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio. Throughout his career, he batted left handed and had a lifetime batting average of .313. He was more famous for his catching, where he had a World Series average of .400. He even set a record of catching more than 100 games in a season for 13 straight years. After retiring in 1946, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954. Only about 1% of players in major leagues have been elected to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, so this was a huge honor for Bill Dickey.

Because of his accomplishments, his baseball cards have become even more valuable. Some of his top cards include 1933 Goudey Bill Dickey #19, 1934 – 1936 National Chicle Batter-Up Bill Dickey #30, 1939 Play Ball Bill Dickey #30, and 1951 Bowman Bill Dickey #290.
